GBV refers to any form of violence or abuse that is perpetrated against someone based on their gender or sexual identity. Harmful practices, on the other hand, are cultural or traditional practices that are harmful or oppressive to individuals based on their gender. Gender-based violence can take many forms, including physical violence, sexual violence, emotional abuse, and economic abuse. It can occur in many different settings, including the home, the workplace, and in public spaces. GBV is often perpetrated by intimate partners, family members, or acquaintances. Depression is more common in women than men. The report on Global Burden of Disease estimates the point prevalence of unipolar depressive episodes to be 1.9% for men and 3.2% for women, and the one-year prevalence has been estimated to be 5.8% for men and 9.5% for women.
